Sarah answers your FAQs

Q: Do I need to book or can I just turn up?
If you’re coming down on holiday it would be better if you booked on line. But – if its last minute and you’ve only just found out about WOW – then give us a call and we will do our best to fit you in!

Q: Do I need to bring anything along?
At WOW we have all the kit you need!  But – if you have your own wetsuit bring please do it along.  Apart from that bring a bottle of water, a towel and maybe sunscreen!  I have supplies if you forget anything.  Although I supply winter wetsuits I would advise hiring boots and gloves in the colder monthswhich you can get from the beach shop.

Q: What do I do if I wear contacts?
If you wear disposable ones, you are okay. Otherwise, wear an old pair and close your eyes tightly when underwater. You may also want to use swim goggles. These are suggestions from others who surf. (Swim goggles are also an option if risking your contacts is not an option).

Q: Will I get cold doing a long surf lesson?
We supply winter wetsuits to all our clients to ensure you are warm and comfortable. The chances of getting cold are reduced significantly but lessons in the colder months are a little shorter and also less busy.

Q: What do I do if I don't feel confident in the sea or the surf is big?
We never take our clients out any deeper than waist depth. Saunton is by far the safest beach to learn to surf on in the area.
Our aim is for our clients to enjoy their lesson, we will accomodate for each individual standard of our customer.

Q: If the surf is flat or dangerous will the lessons take place?
No, Under no circumstances will I take anyone in the water if it is unsafe or if there is no possibility of catching waves due to the lack of surf.

Q: Will you be personally taking the lesson?
I teach at least 95% of the lessons.  If I am not coaching you then one of my trusty female instructors will be just as good.

Q: Are we at risk of any marine wildlife, i.e. sharks, jellyfish etc?
We get the odd jelly-fish surge at certain times of the year but none are dangerous. In the eventualitly you are stung in will feel like a mere nettle sting. We do get crabs but again extremely unlikey you will come across one. And, for those of you who still have nightmares about Jaws, your more likely to get attacked by a shaul of seaweed so fear not.

Q: Do I get a discount if I bring my own gear?
We do not offer a discount if you have your own equipment. We prefer that beginners use soft surfboards.

Q: What sort of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, Visa, and MasterCard via phone or in person.
